LOVE IS … TORAH

One of the Torah-teachers came up and heard them engaged in this discussion. Seeing that Yeshua answered them well, he asked him, “Which is the most important mitzvah of them all?” Yeshua answered, “The most important (or GREATEST) is, `Sh’ma Yisra’el, ADONAI Eloheinu, ADONAI echad [Hear, O Isra’el, the LORD our God, the LORD is one], and you are to love ADONAI your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your understanding and with all your strength.’ The second is this: `You are to love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other mitzvah greater than these.” Mark 12:28-31 (CJB)

To love Yah with every fiber of our being (in red) means with our actions and our thoughts. Love is an action, not a thought. Christianity teaches that this (in magenta) is now the only commandment, it is not. What is Y’shua really saying in Mark 12:28-31? You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. Vayikra/Leviticus 19:18 (NKJV) Lying to my neighbor is not love. Sha’ul/Paul expounds on the meaning of love in his first letter to the Corinthians.

If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels but have not love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all that I own and if I hand over my body so I might boast but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not brag, it is not puffed up, it does not behave inappropriately, it does not seek its own way, it is not provoked, it keeps no account of wrong, it does not rejoice over injustice but rejoices in the truth; it bears all things, it believes all things, it hopes all things, it endures all things. Love never fails— but where there are prophecies, they will pass away; where there are tongues, they will cease; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part; but when that which is perfect has come, then that which is partial will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. But now these three remain— faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.
1 Corinthians 13:1-13 (TLV)

Everything stated in the above verses are one continuous topic. Y’shua said “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.” Yochanan/John 14:15 (GW) It will not be that just everyone who says to Me, Master, Master, will enter into the kingdom of Heaven, but the ones who do the will of My Father in Heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Master, Master, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name do many works of power? And then I will declare to them, from everlasting, I never knew you; “depart from Me, those working lawlessness!” Mattityahu/Matthew 7:21-23 (HRB) How many are patient with their brothers (in magenta) and this includes those who attack others because they do not agree with them. Those who are not Isra’el are not my brothers. Scripture declares what makes someone Isra’el and it has to do with FAITH followed by ACTIONS. Scripture tells us (in blue) who is in Covenant. Sha’ul/Paul tells us to: Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1 (NASB) Then how can he then be telling us we are not under the Law/Torah if the Mashiach/Messiah only did his Father’s will?

If we are claiming to be anything other then part of the house of Y’hudah or part of the house of Isra’el … then we are making a false claim to being in the Renewed Covenant. “See, the days are coming,” declares יהוה, “when I shall make a new covenant with the house of Yisra’ĕl and with the house of Yehuḏah, not like the covenant I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Mitsrayim, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them,” declares יהוה. For this is the covenant I shall make with the house of Yisra’ĕl after those days, declares יהוה: I shall put My Torah in their inward parts, and write it on their hearts. And I shall be their Elohim, and they shall be My people. And no longer shall they teach, each one his neighbour, and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know יהוה,’ for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,” declares יהוה. “For I shall forgive their crookedness, and remember their sin no more.” Thus said יהוה, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the laws of the moon and the stars for a light by night, who stirs up the sea, and its waves roar – יהוה of hosts is His Name: “If these laws vanish from before Me,” declares יהוה, “then the seed of Yisra’ĕl shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever.” Thus said יהוה, “If the heavens above could be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I would also cast off all the seed of Yisra’ĕl for all that they have done,” declares יהוה.” Yirmeyahu/Jeremiah 31:31-37 (ISR98)

Thus says the God, Yahweh, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people upon it and spirit to those who walk in it. “I [am] Yahweh; I have called you in righteousness, and I have grasped your hand and watched over you; and I have given you as a covenant of [the] people, as a light of [the] nations, to open [the] blind eyes, to bring [the] prisoner out from [the] dungeon, those who sit [in] darkness from [the] house of imprisonment. Yesha’yahu 42:5-7 (LEB) Isra’el is to be the the light to the nations … not vise versa. This is Yah’s love that those that do not know Him can come to know Him through the instrament He has chosen, that is Y’shua and the people of Obedient Isra’el.

Shalom Aleichem!
