It has become very evident that to many people do not know who the lost sheep of the house of Isra’el are. This problem crops up constantly when people, you think understand what you are referring too, mention something that tips you off that they have no clue. They think it means something else. In this teaching we are going to address what this term actually means.
Lets start with two instances where Y’shua addresses this in Mattityahu (Matthew) 10:5-6 (ESV) – These twelve Jesus sent out, instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”, Mattityahu (Matthew) 15:24 (ISR98) – And He answering, said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Yisra’ĕl.”, and B’reshit (Genesis) 35:11 (NASB) – God also said to him, “I am God Almighty; Be fruitful and multiply; A nation and a company of nations shall come from you, And kings shall come forth from you. (Nation and Nations also mean the same as gentiles from the Hebrew goy) Yah is identifying some of the gentiles are actually Ya’akov’s disobedient descendants. This means they are out of covenant.
Sha’ul is referring to these descendants when he is speaking of the branches cut off from the olive tree. There are two groups of gentiles in the world, those who were once in covenant and those who have never been in covenant. Therefore Sha’ul is speaking of three different groups when he is teaching the understanding of the olive tree. These three groups are; those who have never been cut off, those who have been cut off, and those who have been grafted in. There are no other groups in the world being referred to in the olive tree scenario. If you are not one of these three, you have never been in covenant. Romans 11:16-27
Now we will proceed to explain who the lost sheep are that Y’shua is referring too. In M’lekhim Alef (1 Kings) 11:26-40 and 12:1-13:34, we learn how the whole house of Isra’el (all 12 tribes) is split into 2 kingdoms, the house of Y’hudah and the house of Isra’el. From this point through today, these two kingdoms are still split. The reason that the modern Jewish state of Isra’el has not fulfilled all the prophesies, concerning the restoration, is because ten tribes are still missing from the equation. Peace and completion (Shalom) will not occur until Mashiach returns and puts the houses back together as one. This is spoken of in Mattityahu (Matthew) 24:29-31 (NASB) – “But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. “And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory. “And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Leading up to this event have been over 2700 years of blindness. This blindness is begun under King Shlomo (Solomon) and is set into motion with Yarov’am (Jeroboam 1) in the northern kingdom of Isra’el. This practice is instituted in M’lekhim Alef (1 Kings) 12:25-33 (ISR98) – And Yaroḇ‛am built Sheḵem in the mountains of Ephrayim, and dwelt there. And he went out from there and built Penu’ĕl. And Yaroḇ‛am said in his heart, “Now the reign shall return to the house of Dawiḏ. “If these people go up to do slaughterings in the House of יהוה at Yerushalayim, then the heart of this people shall turn back to their master, Reḥaḇ‛am sovereign of Yehuḏah, and they shall slay me and go back to Reḥaḇ‛am sovereign of Yehuḏah.” So the sovereign took counsel and made two calves of gold, and said to the people, “It is too much for you to go up to Yerushalayim. See, your mighty ones, O Yisra’ĕl, which brought you up from the land of Mitsrayim!” And he set up one in Bĕyth Ěl, and the other he put in Dan. And this matter became a sin, for the people went before the one as far as Dan. And he made the house of high places, and made priests from all sorts of people, who were not of the sons of Lĕwi. And Yaroḇ‛am performed a festival on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the festival that was in Yehuḏah, and he offered on the altar. So he did at Bĕyth Ěl, slaughtering to the calves that he had made. And at Bĕyth Ěl he appointed the priests of the high places which he had made. And he made offerings on the altar which he had made at Bĕyth Ěl on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had devised in his own heart. And he performed a festival for the children of Yisra’ĕl, and offered on the altar and burned incense. This specific sin is changing one of Yah’s feast days from the seventh month, this is the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot), to the eighth month. He may have changed many other times, also including, possibly even what day Shabat was observed on to the first day of the week. Yah informs us this does not please him and this is referred to as continuing in the sin of Yarov‛am.
These actions are what the Prophet Hoshea is referring to in his writing, as he is a citizen of the northern kingdom. All of his writing pertains to the house of Isra’el and its wondering from the truth. This truth is the Torah. Hoshea (Hosea) 8:12 (KJV) – I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing (law is the Hebrew word Torah). The house of Isra’el is also known as Efraim by Hoshea. Hoshea’s warning to his fellow citizens, Yah wants us to return to him and his ways (the Prodigal Son), and tells us one day we will return to him and to the land. Hoshea 14 tells us Efraim will one day say “what more do I have to with idols.” So don’t give up hope that everything Yah promises will happen.
Some further information to assist in peoples understanding is that the Prophets Yesha’yahu (Isaiah), Mikhah (Micah), Hoshea, and ‘Amos, are all speaking during the same time period. That is why many of the things they say are almost identical to each other. Other information that will help to clarify peoples perspective is that the Prophets Eliyahu (Elijah), Elisha, Hoshea, and Yonah, are all from the northern kingdom. This is why people must understand who the audience is, pertaining to each specific prophecy. Otherwise someone may assume a prophecy is broader or narrower then intended.
Yesha’yahu (Isaiah) 8:23-9:20 (9:1-21) (ISR98) – 1 But there is no gloom upon her who is distressed, as when at first He humbled the land of Zeḇulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward more heavily oppressed her, by the way of the sea, beyond the Yardĕn, in Galil of the nations. 2 The people who were walking in darkness have seen a great light; upon those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death a light has shone. This is quoted by Mattityahu (Matthew) 4:15-16 (KJV) – The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. These gentiles, referred to by Yesha’yahu are descendants of the northern kingdom, they are not foreigners as in non ethnic Isra’el. There are known as a people in darkness, as they have abandoned the Torah that was given to Mosheh. These same people are the ones that Yesha’yahu speaks to in 9:6-7 (NIV) – For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
In M’lekhim Bet (2 Kings) 17:1-23 we read where the Assyrians removed the northern kingdom from their land and brought in foreigners to replace them, these are the people whom the modern day Samaritans are descended from. There is a difference between Samaria (another name for the ten tribes) and the Samaritans. Once we have cleared this up, we realize the ten tribes have not yet returned. Some small elements of various parts of the ten tribes rejoined the house of Y’hudah in the past. This does not fulfill either of the two prophecies spoken by Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) and Yechetzk’el (Ezekiel). For both of these Prophets are encouraging the house of Y’hudah that the twelve tribes would be together again.
We move ahead in time to Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah), the Cohen/Levite Priest, 31:1(2)-36(37) (NIV) – “The time is coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them, ” declares the LORD. “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the LORD. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” This is what the LORD says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar– the LORD Almighty is his name: “Only if these decrees vanish from my sight,” declares the LORD, “will the descendants of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me.” This is what the LORD says: “Only if the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth below be searched out will I reject all the descendants of Israel because of all they have done,” declares the LORD. Hebrews 8:8-12 is repeating verses 31-34 from Yirmeyahu chapter 31 as the writer of Hebrews is declaring that this restoration has not yet occurred, even after Y’shua’s resurrection. This is verified by Y’shua in Yochanan (John) 21:15-17 (NKJV) – So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Feed My lambs.” He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Tend My sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
During the same Babylonian captivity period, Yechetzk’el (Ezekiel), also a Cohen/Levite Priest, while among the captives gives a prophetic encouragement in chapter 37, specifically verses 15-28 (CJB) – The word of ADONAI came to me: “You, human being, take one stick and write on it, ‘For Y’hudah and those joined with him [among] the people of Isra’el.’ Next, take another stick and write on it, ‘For Yosef, the stick of Efrayim, and all the house of Isra’el who are joined with him.’ Finally, bring them together into a single stick, so that they become one in your hand. When your people ask you what all this means, tell them that Adonai ELOHIM says this: ‘I will take the stick of Yosef, which is in the hand of Efrayim, together with the tribes of Isra’el who are joined with him, and put them together with the stick of Y’hudah and make them a single stick, so that they become one in my hand.’ The sticks on which you write are to be in your hand as they watch. Then say to them that Adonai ELOHIM says: ‘I will take the people of Isra’el from among the nations where they have gone and gather them from every side and bring them back to their own land. I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Isra’el; and one king will be king for all of them. They will no longer be two nations, and they will never again be divided into two kingdoms. “‘They will never again defile themselves with their idols, their detestable things, or any of their transgressions; but I will save them from all the places where they have been living and sinning; and I will cleanse them, so that they will be my people, and I will be their God. My servant David will be king over them, and all of them will have one shepherd; they will live by my rulings and keep and observe my regulations. They will live in the land I gave to Ya’akov my servant, where your ancestors lived; they will live there – they, their children, and their grandchildren, forever; and David my servant will be their leader forever. I will make a covenant of peace with them, an everlasting covenant. I will give to them, increase their numbers, and set my sanctuary among them forever. My home will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people. The nations will know that I am ADONAI, who sets Isra’el apart as holy, when my sanctuary is with them forever.'” After this encouragement, the Prophet declares a warning that after the restoration will come a time when an enemy will be allowed to come against the whole house of Isra’el. Yechetzk’el (Ezekiel) chapters 37-39 are condensed in the book of Revelation chapter 20.
Many of the events that have happened since the time of Y’shua and his talmidim (disciples); are misunderstood as people do not realize, they must use the information in scripture properly. Leaving out or adding to prophecies gives us an incorrect picture. We must factor in all the data appropriately or we will come up with skewed understandings.
My own hypothesis, in this matter, is that the Emperor Constantine 1 may have been a descendant of the northern kingdom, the house of Isra’el. I base this on the things Constantine did very much line up with what Yarov’am (Jeroboam 1) did when he came to power. Sun god worship was constantly in the face of Avraham’s descendants, especially when Efraim and Manashah’s maternal grandfather was a sun god priest (Poti’fera). This also was the reason the house of Y’hudah suffered under the Babylonians. This of course is solely my own opinion but it does make sense.
The purpose of this teaching is to provide information that many may not be aware of. Unfortunately this teaching would not be so necessary; if those who claim the Bible is what their faith is based on, really knew what scripture says. This would require people to actually read the Bible and people do not want to put the time in to read it for themselves. To many trust someone else to tell them what the Word of Yah says, instead of examining it for themselves. Hopefully this endeavor will help inspire individuals and groups to study all of the Word. Especially those who claim Y’shua is their Mashiach, as he is the Word manifested in the flesh.
The Jews are not the lost sheep of the house of Isra’el, they are the house of Y’hudah. So if we truly want to influence our Jewish kinsman, let’s drive them crazy by keeping Torah and not converting them. This is the only thing that will make them jealous. Romans 10:19
Yochanan (John) 10:16 (HNV) I have other sheep, which are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will hear my voice. They will become one flock with one shepherd.
