חי – Life

Remember that יהושע Messiah, of the seed of Dawid, was raised from the dead according to my Good News, for which I suffer hardship, as a criminal, unto chains, but the Word of Elohim is not chained. So I endure through it all for the sake of the chosen, so that they too obtain deliverance which is in Messiah יהושע with everlasting esteem. Trustworthy is the word: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him. If we endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also shall deny us. If we are not trustworthy, He remains trustworthy, it is impossible for Him to deny Himself. Remind them of this, earnestly witnessing before the Master, not to wage verbal battles – which is useless – to the overthrowing of the hearers. Do your utmost to present yourself approved to Elohim, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly handling the Word of Truth. 2 Timothy 2:8-15 (ISR98)

Book of LifeBut know this, that in the last days hard times shall come. For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, thankless, wrong-doers, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, haters of good, betrayers, reckless, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Elohim, having a form of reverence but denying its power. And turn away from these! For among them are those who creep into households and captivate silly women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 2 Timothy 3:1-7 (ISR98)

But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:13-17 (NASB) (Sacred writings is referring to the scriptures, the Tanakh/OT)

Our brother Sha’ul in his letter to Timothy is reminding him how he, Timothy, was brought up. He was taught under his grandmother and mother, the ways of Torah and the Prophets. Because of this upbringing, he is knowledgeable in scripture. Therefore Sha’ul simply uses traditional teaching methods to instruct Timothy on how to understand Mashiach. As Y’shua is the Mashiach being acknowledged he will go into greater depth to deal with Y’shua’s tie to Torah.

The events of Y’shua’s death and being raised from the dead are Sha’ul’s message of the Good News as the fulfillment of the prophecies in the Tanakh. Sha’ul relates his sufferings as worthwhile as the Word of Elohim is not chained/bound. Being that Y’shua is the Word of Elohim, this is the one he is referring to as not being chained. Elohim’s Word is as Yochanan describes in his opening of his Good News account, the Word made flesh. The emissary Sha’ul tells us that the Word is something we can trust but if we deny him then he will deny us. If we are not trustworthy, he can still be trusted because he cannot deny himself as he is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Timothy is encouraged to present himself approved to Elohim needing not to be ashamed for he handles the Word of Truth, right. This is in light of Sha’ul declaring all scripture to be breathed out by Elohim, Yah, to be profitable for teaching, reproof, and for instruction in what is right. A representative of Elohim will have the instruction and equipment to do the good work required (Torah). As this will outfit Timothy as he has to deal with those who will say and do evil and call it Elohim’s will falsely portray themselves as faithful to Yah. They will spread false teachings as they are proud, unforgiving, greedy, betrayers, slanderers, having a form of reverence for truth, but denying its authority. Many of them will be able to deceive women into going with their own sins and lusts, patterned after the fall in the garden.

One problem commonly cropping up is the lack of knowledge concerning the writings of the B’rit Chadashah, were not written yet. Not using this understanding causes people to give undue credence to the first century writings pertaining to what is scripture. As mentioned virtually none of what we know as the B’rit Chadashah was even available to those who people think were using them, Sha’ul, Kefa, Ya’akov, Yochanan, etc. Therefore when these writings are touching on scripture, they are referring to the recordings in the Tanakh. So when Sha’ul and others are directing us to examine the Word, he is telling us to go to the Torah and the Prophets.

The warning Sha’ul is giving Timothy is expressed in the following admonition; 2 Timothy 4:1-4 (NIV) I give you a command in the sight of God and Christ Jesus. Christ will judge the living and the dead. Because he and his kingdom are coming, here is the command I give you. Preach the word. Be ready to serve God in good times and bad. Correct people’s mistakes. Warn them. Cheer them up with words of hope. Be very patient as you do these things. Teach them carefully. The time will come when people won’t put up with true teaching. Instead, they will try to satisfy their own longings. They will gather a large number of teachers around them. The teachers will say what the people want to hear. The people will turn their ears away from the truth. They will turn to stories that aren’t completely true. Sadly this warning has been forgotten and is becoming a problem once again. People do not want to hear what the Torah and the Prophets call us to do, as this would require people to do what the instructions say to do.

Kefa also calls on people who know the truth not to turn from it as he compares it to the Proverb of a dog returning to its own vomit. Proverbs 26:1 If I have changed my life to be more obedient to the Fathers will and then decide to go back to what I did before, this is backsliding, compromising, giving in to a Izevel/Jezebel spirit. This is the same issue Eli’yahu/Elijah is dealing with when he takes on the prophets of Ba’al in Melekhim Bet/2 Kings 18.

We must be very careful in how we deal with those who do not yet see the light and we must have some patience with them. Many of them currently look at us as adversaries to their beliefs. Because of this, friction has built up and turmoil has manifested itself. A significant portion of people who have had their eyes opened and are growing in truth and doing right, have been rejected by family and friends for where they stand now. Those who are proposing that we simply pat people on the back and tell them everything is okay, neglect the pain that some have suffered for their faith. Each person must travel the road they are on and seeking Yah’s will according to how quickly he is bringing them on their journey. We must be very careful not to beat either side up in this matter.

All of us have to choose whether we want to seek His will or our own. This freedom does not allow anyone to attack those perusing a Torah based lifestyle through Y’shua. We must not permit those who will seek reconciliation with those still in the dark, to accost anyone who has ceased to participate in their former lifestyles. In other words don’t beat up one brother to accommodate another brother seeking a false shalom. This goes for both sides. Those of us who are pursuing Torah must realize this is not a new issue. Sha’ul was once a great enemy of the truth seekers, so remember even he changed his ways. If anyone you speak to doesn’t want to hear what you have to share about the truth with them, stop telling them, that is what Y’shua told us to do.

Shalom Aleichem

Even with children things do not go smoothly. Sibling rivalry is a constant throughout history, which can sometimes lead to major conflicts. Still there is hope for unity.
